A Gift from Norway: Honoring America’s Founding Heroes on Their 250th Anniversary

As a π³π΄ Norwegian and a Friend to the πΊπΈ American People, I offer this Tribute in the continued Celebration of America’s 250th Birthday.
β
The Spirit of 1776 ignited a Flame of Liberty that inspired the World β and the Courage, Devotion and Sacrifice of the 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence stands as one of Humanity’s greatest Achievements.
Today, I present yet another Gift to the American People β A Remarkable Film that Transforms the Dusty Portraits of History into Living, Breathing Patriots Who Speak to Us Across the Centuries. βThe 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independenceβ brings these Heroes to Life, reminding us of the tremendous Sacrifices that secured the Freedom we all enjoy today β and the Expectations they had for all Americans to do their Duty to safeguard Liberty in the Future.
Bringing History to Life
This Extraordinary Film from PragerU’s Road to Liberty Series accomplishes what no History book can
β It gives Voice to the Signers themselves. Through powerful Monologues, each Founder steps forward from the Shadows of the Past to tell their Story in their own Words. The Film transforms Two-dimensional Figures into Three-dimensional People with Hopes, Fears, and Unwavering Conviction. From John Adams, the βindispensable voice for independence,β to Thomas Jefferson, the brilliant Wordsmith who penned the Declaration, to lesser-known Patriots like William Whipple and Caesar Rodney, we meet the Men who risked everything for Liberty. As a Bonus, we also get to meet some of their Contemporaries, Wives and Supporters of the Revolution.
The Production captures the Essence of each Signer with remarkable Authenticity. The Costumes, Settings, and Performances, although artificially made, transport Viewers back to the turbulent Days of 1776, when the Fate of a Nation hung in the Balance. The Film’s innovative Approach allows us to understand not just what these Men and Women did, but who they were β their Motivations, their Sacrifices, and their Vision for a New Nation built on the Principles of Freedom and Self-Government.
The Price of Freedom
What becomes abundantly clear in this powerful Film is the tremendous Price paid by these Patriots for the Liberty we often take for granted. Each Signature on the Declaration was not merely an act of Ink on Parchment but a Declaration of War against the most powerful Empire on Earth. The Signers knew full well that they were signing their own Death Warrants β should the War of Independence be lost.
The Film movingly portrays how Francis Lewis of New York lost his Home to British Flames and watched his dear Wife Elizabeth perish after being thrown into Prison. Thomas Nelson Jr. of Virginia literally pointed Cannon toward his own House when British General Cornwallis made it his Headquarters. Abraham Clark of New Jersey faced the heartbreaking Choice between Liberty and the Lives of his two Sons, who were brutally treated aboard the British Prison Ship Jersey. Richard Stockton was dragged from his Bed, marched through Snow in his Night Clothes, and nearly starved to Death in a British Prison.
These Stories and countless others remind us that Freedom was purchased not with Words alone but with Blood, Fortune, and Sacred Honor. The Signers risked everything β their Families, their Fortunes, their Reputations, and their very Lives β for the Principle that
ββ¦all Men are created equal and endowed by our Creator with unalienable Rightsβ¦β
Lessons for Today
In an Era when the Principles of Liberty are under Assault from those who would rewrite or reject America’s founding Values, this Film serves as a powerful Reminder of what is at stake. The Signers were not perfect Men β many were Slave Owners, some were flawed in Character β but they possessed the Wisdom and Courage to establish a Framework of Freedom that has endured for two and a half Centuries and inspired the World.
The Film particularly highlights the Christian Faith that guided all of these Patriots, from John Witherspoon, the Scottish Minister who led Princeton, to countless others who acknowledged that Liberty itself is a Gift from God, not a Favor from Kings. This Christian Foundation β so often erased from Modern Accounts β was absolutely Central to the American Experiment and remains Essential to its Preservation today.
Perhaps most inspiring is how the Signers, despite their Differences, United Around the Common Cause of Freedom. Federalists and Anti-Federalists, Northerners and Southerners, Merchants and Farmers β they set aside their Interests to secure their collective Independence. This Spirit of Unity in the Face of Tyranny offers a powerful Lesson for a Nation often divided today.
A Call to Guard Liberty
As the Film powerfully reminds us, the Charge given by these Patriots now belongs to us.
John Adams warns,
βGuard Liberty well. For once lost, it is lost forever.β
William Floyd urges us to recognize that
βLiberty comes at a Cost.β
And Samuel Adams, the Father of the American Revolution, reminds us that Freedom is
βa Gift from GOD, not a Favor from Kings.”
This magnificent Film is more than Entertainment β it is Education and Inspiration. It reconnects us with the Spirit of 1776 and reminds us that the Blessings of Liberty we enjoy today were purchased at a Tremendous Price by extraordinary Men and Women who dared to risk everything for an Idea β the radical Notion that Government Exists To Protect the Rights of the People β Not to rule over them!
From Norway to America, may this Film help rekindle the Flame of Liberty in the Hearts of all who watch it. May it remind us that Freedom is never more than one Generation away from extinction, and that each Generation must guard it with the same Courage and Conviction as those 56 Patriots who pledged their Lives, their Fortunes, and their Sacred Honor so that We Might Live in FREEDOM.
I have fallen on hard times. I have always had a Dream of seeing America and the American People with my own two GOD-given eyes. That Dream seems unattainable now. I will however keep fighting for America, support my American Friends in Words & Prayers as long as I draw breath. And let me impart you β my Dear American Friend β with this bit of Wisdom:
βIf your Blessed Heart honors Almighty GOD and burns for the Continuation of American Liberty only half as brightly as mine does. And if you use every Day as an Opportunity to keep Freedom alive in your Heart β AND β in the Heart of your Compatriots β and suppress that ever-present Evil Impulse of Government Tyranny, you will rise to the same Level of Grandeur as all the Immortalized Men & Women in the Film you are about to watch.
Not only that! βYou will have passed on The Torch of Liberty to the Next Generation of Americans! And they will β by the Grace of Almighty GOD β pass it on to the Generation that follows after them. And who knows! Maybe someone will Honor you one Day with the same reverence as the staff at PragerU has done in this Film. And even if that won’t happen β Your Spirit will nonetheless live on in the FREEDOM Americans still enjoy β 250 Years from now β If Jesus hasn’t come back in the meantime. So, live every Day as if it were your last. And impart this Wisdom on your less enlightened American Compatriots. History and a Grateful Nation will thank you!
Happy 250th Birthday, America. May the Principles of 1776 continue to guide your Nation for Centuries to come.
